Dual Mass Flywheels are used to dampen vibrations from diesel engines. Aftermarket technicians recognize the original equipment Dual Mass Flywheel as a complex and costly replacement. LuK responded with the development of their patented series Damper Disc. This highly efficient design contains coil springs that compress in series to absorb and isolate undesirable and potentially destructive engine vibrations (what the Dual Mass Flywheel used to do).The effectiveness of this disc in dampening vibrations eliminated the need for the.Dual-Mass Flywheel. LuK pioneered Solid Flywheel Replacements approximately 7 years ago. They offer three part #'s for the Ford 7.3L Diesel and also offers one for the GM 6.5L Diesel. Even though LuK is clearly the pioneer of this technology, Valeo Transmission had the vision to improve and develop this technology.They designed their own damper disc and developed a line of solid flywheels for multiple applications.

An Innovative Aftermarket Solution

More vehicles in the last two decades were produced OE with a dual mass flywheel. Although the DMF has advantages, there are many disadvantages especially to replace in the aftermarket. Those disadvantages include:

Should not try to resurface upon failure, therefore, new expensive one is needed
